Condemn the targeted anti-Communist attack by the Mexico City police!

We, the Central Executive Committees of the YCL-LJC and the CPC, condemn in the strongest terms the targeted anti-communist attack by the Mexican state on members of the Partido Comunista de México (PCM, Communist Party of Mexico) and the Frente de la Juventud Comunista (FJC, Communist Youth Front of Mexico).

On October 2, members of the PCM and the FJC were assaulted and detained without cause by Mexico City police while on their way to a demonstration commemorating the anniversary of the Tlatelolco massacre. Those attacked included Comrade Miguel Uribe, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the PCM, and Comrade Ernesto Santrich, Political Secretary of the Central Council of the FJC. The attack was specifically directed against Communists, as it occurred neither during a march nor during a clash with police. The repression took place outside a Party office in the Historic Center of Mexico City.

After several hours of detention, all the activists were released, although some were also assaulted by police while in detention.

This premeditated assault on the PCM and the FJC is part of a broader pattern of repression against Communists in Mexico. We extend our utmost solidarity to our sister organizations, the PCM and the FJC. We call for an end to the criminalization of Communist, labour and popular movements in Mexico.
