On July 26, 2026, from coast to coast to coast, the Young Communist League-Ligue de la jeunesse communist celebrated the 73rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks. As a part of the World Federation of Democratic Youth’s “World Anti-Imperialist Day of Solidarity with the Peoples’ Struggle,” the YCL-LJC rallied together on Moncada Day to support the Canadian Network on “No War on Cuba” campaign. Uniting with local affiliates of the CNC, YCL-LJC members participated in days of solidarity with the Cuban peoples and celebration of the Cuban revolution. Through these initiatives, the YCL-LJC raised funds for material aid to Cuba, distributed educational and agitational materials, and promoted solidarity through cultural and political exchanges with Cubans in Canada.
As the Yankee blockade on Cuba tightens, the under the auspice of international campaigns against imperialism, the YCL-LJC’s participation in solidarity actions pinpoints the importance of international anti-imperialism. YCL-LJCers working within the CNC and its affiliates, Cuban solidarity student clubs on campuses, and other peace organizations continue to strengthen pan-Canadian and international comradeship. Through the CNC, millions of dollars of energy and medical supplies have been sent to Cuba, meanwhile the Che Brigade has put Canadians in direct contact with the Cuban people.
Canadians, especially Canadian youth, have always had a special relationship with the Cuban people. The YCL-LJC, through its commitments in WFDY, was a key player in sending over a thousand young Canadians to Havana in 1978 to participate in the 11th World Festival of Youth and Students. To this day, the YCL-LJC continues to Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas in opposing the American blockade on Cuba and Canada’s complacency.
As the imperialist system seeks to divide the working class of the world, wherein the national bourgeoisie pit the youth of the nations against each other for the sake of profiteering through rampant militarization, it is crucial that the working class stand united from nation to nation. Through collaboration and comradeship with our sister organizations in WFDY and joint actions such as the World Anti-Imperialist Day of Solidarity with the Peoples’ Struggle, the working-class youth of the world stand united in a shared struggle.
Long live the struggle for peace, against imperialism!
Long live the youth struggle!
