Indigenous youth in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs occupied the front steps of the British Columbia Legislature building in the Provincial capital of Victoria, which is on unceded Coast Salish Lekwungan territory. Kolin Sutherland-Wilson was one of those Indigenous youths.

To commemorate the popular uprising of July 19th, 1936, Rebel Youth republishes a speech by Dr. Norman Bethune, a communist and physician who would travel to Spain that November in order to provide medical aid to the Republicans.
Times like ours are as exciting to be a part of as they are frightening. We can draw courage and inspiration to organize and to act from our own history – working-class and peoples’ history.

Alors que tous et toutes se souviennent de l’Appel du 18 juin lancé par De Gaulle, celui de Charles Tillon, dirigeant communiste, est souvent passé sous silence. La raison? Probablement que d’admettre qu’un communiste appelle à résister avant De Gaulle ne s’accorde pas avec l’Histoire officielle selon laquelle le PCF aurait versé dans la collaboration jusqu’en 1942.
Cette victoire en Cour suprême survient à un moment où on constate un recul des droits linguistiques des francophones hors Québec. Nous espérons donc que cette victoire judiciaire saura constituer un nouveau point d’appui pour le million de francophones qui tentent de perpétuer une langue et une culture malgré la tendance manifeste à l’assimilation.
